Moments

So much of life passes by unexceptionally: step out of the shower, answer the phone, make a cup of coffee… but there are moments– your first time behind the wheel of a car, a passionate kiss with the one you love, looking out the window of a plane and seeing the glorious sunset permeating the heavens– when the sun seems a little warmer, the stars a little closer.

Senses are heightened, emotions overlapping, and somehow you go to bed a slightly different person than you had been that morning. A subtle yet fundamental shift of an integral part of your identity. Something unnamable giving way, coming apart… a whisper, a barely discernable rustle as silent as a silk scarf falling onto the blade of a sword.

Moments of faith, hope, fear and most especially love– these make up a person. Not money or power or status, but a few precious, priceless moments strung together over the course of a lifetime to hold back the darkness, a luminous gingerbread path to remind you of where you are on the road of life whenever you pause to look over your shoulder, and a constant guide as you look forward to the rest of the journey that awaits you in this life.

Business Poetry

The sun is put to offended shame
by fluorescents piercing the misty sky
while a sea of humanity walks about
engrossed together but each alone

Tranquility is overshadowed by imposed pressure
as unspoken deadlines flutter in the passing wind
a fleeting warmth numbed cold by urgency
keeping in touch without nostalgia
every nerve tingles and comes alive
the entire body save for the heart

Silent, separate, anywhere but here
subconsciously longing for a distant memory
of dreams
hazy not vivid
of paintings
abstract not still
of a home
a field without concrete walls
of a life ruled by love and not currency

As the heart lives on
the body is standing still
